Over the past several months, a subgroup of the Parish Committee reviewed the extensive feedback that parishioners provided during the ministerial search process and, more recently, the 2014 Stewardship campaign. The group worked together to distill these ideas into a proposed set of vision, mission and covenant statements. While the current covenant and mission have served First Parish well, it seems time for new, contemporary language that best reflects our congregational identity.
The Parish Committee recently voted to approve a set of proposed statements. We now invite parishioners’ active participation once again. Over the coming weeks, the Parish Committee would like your engagement with this congregation-wide process of expressing who we are and who we want to be. Do the draft statements get it “right”?
Please consider the proposed statements and offer your ideas and feedback. Opportunities for engagement include:
- Attending the Parish Committee Listening hours on November 15 after the service.
- Contacting any member of the Parish Committee
- Participating in Conversations of Our Vision:
- Sat. December 5, 9:30am-11:00am
- Tues. December 8, 7:00pm-8:30pm
After collating the responses, the subcommittee will report back to the Parish Committee on December 10. A final version will then be circulated to the congregation for consideration in advance of a special congregational meeting on a date to be determined. While we will never all agree on every word (we are Unitarian Universalists!), this is an important process of working together to define who we are and who we hope to become.
