We’ll look at the different traditions of prayer – somatic, petitionary, and contemplative, to name a few – and at some prayer practices, such as lectio divina. We will consider questions, such as to whom or to what is a prayer addressed, if it isn’t to a divine recipient? Or the complex dynamics of how to respond when someone offers to “pray for you.” We will think about prayer as poetry, as mysticism, as sacred questioning, and as a path to greater compassion. Prayer exists in the liminal space between belief and doubt, between certainty and mystery. Whatever your perspective, please bring your questions, your doubts – and perhaps your prayers.
