First Parish has been a long-time friend and supporter of the Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry in Roxbury. The UUUM offers academic enrichment programs to Boston-area youth of color; safe shelter and workforce development for survivors of domestic violence; and arts and humanities programs and tours of public art in Roxbury. In September, the UUUM invites the public to two noteworthy programs:
Black and Indigenous Legacies at First Church Roxbury, Tuesday, September 9, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The UUUM, in partnership with the Roxbury Historical Society, will host a public presentation on their new report about the history of enslavement at First Church Roxbury. Attendees are encouraged to RSVP on the UUUM website.
The Makanda Project Concert: Saturday, September 13, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The Makanda Project will perform a world-class jazz concert on the beautiful greenspace at First Church in Roxbury. The concert is free and open to the public. Bring a lawn chair. Carpooling options from First Parish may be available; check with Lea Anderson.
