Dr. Stephanie MayAfter an extensive nationwide search, the Parish Committee and the Ministerial Search Committee are thrilled to announce our candidate for First Parish’s next settled minister: Dr. Stephanie May.

Stephanie May, ThD, was the unanimous choice of the Search Committee from among 27 candidates because of her warm and outgoing personality; her intellectual curiosity; her deep listening and effective communication skills; her calm and centering presence in the pulpit; her experience in both academia and church life; and the consistently outstanding recommendations offered by many references.

Stephanie is currently completing her second year as Ministerial Intern at the UU Area Church in Sherborn, MA, and will be ordained this spring.

While serving in Sherborn, Stephanie has also served as the Interim UU Chaplain at Wellesley College. She has been a teaching fellow at Harvard College and Harvard Divinity School, and a Lecturer at both Brandeis and Boston College. She also served as managing editor of the Journal of Feminist Studies in Religion, based in Cambridge.

Raised in Michigan, Stephanie graduated from Wheaton College in Illinois in 1993 with a degree in philosophy. She received a Masters in Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2002, and a Doctorate in Theology from Harvard Divinity School in 2012.

Stephanie lives in Sudbury with her partner of 10 years, Bill Churchill, and her son Alek, who is 16. She has a deep appreciation for nature — working recently as a field hand at Hutchins Farm in Concord — and for the value of religious community. We are so delighted to welcome her to ours!

We hope you will take the opportunity to meet Stephanie during the many events of Candidating Week, April 26 – May 4. She will preach on Sunday, April 27 and again on Sunday, May 4. After the service on May 4 our congregation will vote on the Call To Ministry. Please plan to attend!
