The Floral Heart Project : A Covid Memorial
Submitted by Mary Ann Borkowski
It has been over a year since the first case of COVID-19 showed up in Massachusetts. Since then, many lives have been lost or upended and we have been isolating from each other. To commemorate this point of the pandemic journey, a banner and floral heart has been placed at First Parish, 225 Boston Post Road, Wayland to remain until the end of March. Russell’s Garden Center has generously donated the floral wreath. Feel welcome to visit the memorial. There will be no formal vigil but feel free to bring your family, friends, any small social distancing group. Consider displaying any floral heart image at your house or business to show solidarity with our community members and to acknowledge this difficult year. To visit the Memorial, please feel welcome to park in the First Parish parking lot. Questions? Contact Stephanie May at smay@uuwayland.org
These hard times have left many in difficult circumstances. There are many charities that support and aid those suffering financially from this pandemic; food pantries, rent support, social services organizations that help us through trauma. Another sad element of this pandemic has been the increasing number of anti-Asian hate crimes and harassment especially the most recent murders in Atlanta. Learn about what is happening and look for ways to help. There is much for us to do to build a safe community for everyone together.
