Just in time for Pride Month, First Parish has once again completed the UUA recertification process to qualify as an official Welcoming Congregation. Being a Welcoming Congregation means we strive for radical inclusion, and create spaces that honor every part of our identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our Welcoming focus this year included two worship services themed on Living An Authentic Life and Exploring the Transgender and Nonbinary Experience, a potluck supper and viewing of Casa Susanna (a safe house in the Catskills in the 1950s and ‘60s), a potluck and a Pop-Up for Pride card-making evening, sharing our plate and donating our snack concession to OUT MetroWest and SpeakOUT Boston, and creating rainbow scarecrows to decorate the front lawn last October. These events and activities demonstrated our collective commitment to create opportunities to build bridges within the congregation, ensure that First Parish in Wayland is a safe space to embrace LGBTQ+ educational opportunities, positively support an educated and inclusive congregation, and create opportunities for congregants to come together socially while engaging in social justice activities.
