On Sunday, December 14 at 10 a.m., the First Parish choir, accompanied by professional instrumentalists, will present The World Beloved: A Bluegrass Mass. Composed by contemporary American composer Carol Barnett, the piece is an unusual setting of the traditional “ordinary” of the mass.
The text, drawn from the classical Latin mass, is sung in a combination of the traditional Latin and English, and reflects the seasonal themes of universal love, peace, and goodwill toward all. The choral settings are accompanied by a blue grass band of fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and bass.
