Ministers, Staff, and Leadership at First Parish

The Rev. Ken Sawyer has served as Minister of First Parish since 1974.
A New Jersey native, he graduated from Amherst College and Harvard Divinity
School before beginning his ministry at the First Church of Houlton, Maine,
in 1970. He has served on a number of town and denominational committees,
including the UUA Ministerial Fellowship Committee (1984-92), the UU Urban
Ministry (of which he is Clerk), and the UUA Pamphlet Commission (of which
he is now Chair). He has also co-taught a preaching course at Harvard Divinity
School since 1989. Perspectives, a collection of his own sermons, was published
by the church in 1985, and is in its second printing. Ken and his wife
Carol live in Wayland, not far from their two grown daughters and two grandchildren.

The Rev. Erin Splaine has served the First Parish in
Wayland since 2001. Prior to that she was minister of the Unitarian Society of
Northampton and Florence in Northampton, MA from 1998-2001. Erin returns to
Wayland as the Associate Minister having done her Ministerial Internship here at
First Parish in 1996-1997 and then served as Interim Youth Advisor the following
year. A graduate of Harvard Divinity School in 1998 Erin was ordained here at
First Parish that same year. Erin serves on a number of town and denominational
committees, including being one of four Good Officers for the Mass-Bay District
UU Minister’s Association, a member of UUA President Bill Sinkford’s President’s
Roundtable Planning Committee for Metro-West and as a member of the Church of
the Larger Fellowship’s Intern Committee. Locally, Erin serves as a member of
the Board of the Lincoln-Wayland-Sudbury Domestic Violence Roundtable, is a
member the Wayland Substance Abuse Prevention Task Force and serves as Chair of
the Wayland Youth Advisory Committee which overseas the town of Wayland’s Youth
and Family Services Department. Erin and her wife were married at First
Parish in October of 2004, they live in Wayland with their yellow lab Bartlett.
